Background Information Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15 th 1929. He was a civil rights activist in 1950 and 1960. His father and grandfather was a pastor at a local church. He was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi because of his non-violent protests in India.

What Martin Luther King Jr. did He gave all African Americans the same rights as White Americans. He ended segregation in public schools, protection from police abuse, and preventing discrimination in employment. He gave his “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington to give his opinion about ending segregation in the U.S.A.

Examples of Leadership Qualities He never gave up on giving all African Americans freedom. He was put in jail 30 times for his non-violent protests. He led the Montgomery bus boycott. He led non-violent protests in Birmingham, Alabama. He had great ideas on how to end segregation in America.

Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. The time is always right to do what is right. A lie cannot live. Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed. Awards He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. He got the Nobel Peace Prize when he was 35, and he was also the youngest man ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on on April 4 th on his hotel balcony. Martin Luther King was shot by James Earl Ray. Martin Luther King Jr. died in 1968. Conclusion Martin Luther King Jr. will always be remembered by African Americans. He will be an inspiration to people whether white or black. He will be remembered by his “I Have a Dream” speech. Martin Luther King Jr. went down in history as the greatest civil rights activist in American history. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great, caring, and a joyful leader.
