Arkansas Teacher Excellence and Support System: Guide to Evidence & Artifacts

TESS is... Evidence-centered.

Evidence TEACHER INPUTS STUDENT OUTCOMES OBSERVATION DOCUMENTS

ARTIFACTS... are produced by the work of teaching. are documents, records, objects and other items made for improving instruction. may provide evidence for Domains 2 and 3, but are the best and sometimes only evidence for Domains 1 and 4.

OBSERVATION DOCUMENTS...  will result from the Pre-Observation and Post Observation Interviews (e.g. lesson/unit plans, interview questions, family communications).  will include evidence gathered during instruction.  may include artifacts which provide evidence of Domain 2 and 3 work.

STUDENT OUTCOMES...  will be found in student learning shown by examples of student work.  will be shown in both Formative and Summative Student Assessments.  include student achievement increases that document student academic growth – the goal of TESS.

ARTIFACTS: not ‘additions’ to teacher work; they exist as part of working to improve instruction (see examples).  Self-Assessment  PGP  Unit/Lesson Plans  Instructional Materials  Family Communication

ARTIFACTS: not simply part of a large portfolio, but that which communicates about teacher or student work.

ARTIFACTS: will be planned and collected in digital or hard-copy format determined as part of local TESS work.

ARTIFACTS: speak positively or negatively about on-stage or off-stage work. Plan for using artifacts. Question their purpose and the results of their use.

REMEMBER... Artifacts are evidence in the Teacher Excellence and Support System. Artifacts are part of our current practice. Artifacts may provide information for every domain of the Framework for Teaching.

REMEMBER... Plan for artifacts. Be reasonable with artifact requirements. Include discussing and analyzing artifacts in conferences. Work to improve understanding and use of artifacts.
