2 What is TELPAS? TELPAS is the name given to the assessment system designed by Texas to meet NCLB Title III requirements. Consists of 2 separate assessments –Reading Proficiency Tests in English (RPTE) –Texas Observation Protocol (TOP)

4 Types of Assessment Required for Limited English Proficient Students Annual assessment of English language proficiency for all K-12 students identified as LEP All students identified as LEP must be annually assessed even if they are not served under Title I or Title III State assessments in academic content of all students in grades 3-8 &10

5 States are required to: Establish Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAO) targets for annual increases in ATTAINMENT of English proficiency for annual increases in PROGRESS in learning English
