Cosmetology Cosmetology is a general phrase encompassing the practices performed by ; beauty culturists, cosmeticians, cosmetologists, hairdressers With different types of things such as; dressing, curling, waxing, weaving, cleansing, cutting, singeing, bleaching, coloring, or similar work upon the hair of any person and much much more.

What is Cosmetology? CCCCosmetology is the study or art of cosmetics and their used to beautify the nails, skin and hair.

History of Cosmetics Some Historians Believe that cosmetology originated with the Egyptians. Cosmetics have been used for as long as there have been people to use them. The word "cosmetae" was first used to describe Roman slaves whose function was to bathe men and women in perfume.

Egypt As early as 10,000 BCE, men and women used scented oils, ointments to clean and soften their skin, mask body odor, dyes, paints were all used for the skin, body and hair. Egyptians were very superstitious, rings and amulets were worn to ward off the evil spirits and injury.

Greece In Greece, precious oils, perfumes, cosmetic powders, eye shadows, skin glosses, paints, beauty unguents, and hair dyes were in universal use. Corinthian, Rhodian and East Greek traders dominated markets in perfume flasks and cosmetic containers included aryballoi, alabastra, pyxides and other small specialized shapes.

Rome Myrrh and Frankincense from Yemen was sent to the Mediterranean from Persian traders, the routes swelled as the demand for roses, sweet flag, orris root, narcissus, saffron, mastic, oak moss, cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, ginger, costus, spikenard, aloewood, grasses and gum resins increased.

Far East CCCChristian Gnostics, Chinese Taoists believed that extraction of a plant's fragrance represented the liberation of its soul. DDDDistillation of essential oils and the use of aromatics progressed in the Far East as well.

Career According to both NACCAS and the United States Department of Labor, the average cosmetology salary range for salon professionals can average up to a $50,000 annual cosmetology salary, but this varies since each employer charges tips and bonuses slightly differently. Some of the main factors that determine cosmetology salaries and cosmetology salary ranges include the size and location of the salon, hours worked, the tipping habits of clients, and competition from other salons and shops.

Education In order to work as a hairstylist or cosmetologist must; attend a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school, be at least 16 years old, earn a high school or equivalency diploma as well. Training programs in hairstyling and cosmetology last approximately nine months and may result in earning an associate degree.

Many Jobs in Cosmetology Some manage salons or decide to open their own. Many different jobs such as; hairstylists, hairdressers and cosmetologists, shampooers, manicurists, pedicurists, and skin care specialists. As hairstylists and cosmetologists become more experienced and gain a following, they can expect their earnings to increase.

Salary and benefits hairdressers can make an average salary of $22,760 in 2010—including tips. The best-paid 10 percent in the profession made approximately $41,540, while the lowest-paid made approximately $16,350. Heritage vs. Modern The Indus valley people, especially the women possessed a unique sense of beauty. They used a number of accessories such as; pincers, ear-scoops and tweezers, lipsticks, application of face paints and other cosmetics were familiar to them. In Modern times, cosmetology means the science of beautifying skin and its appendages. Cosmetics enhance beauty and self-confidence by feeling good. Today, and aesthetically pleasing appearance is considered vital component of self-esteem, social image and job worthiness.
