2  When world war 1 began more than 250,000 Irish men from the north and south joined the British army.  About 10,000 volunteers refused to fight for Britain.  James Connolly had a large banner put up on liberty hall which says : We Serve Neither King Nor Kaiser But Ireland.  James Connolly ordered a German ship to come with arms.  The captain of the ship scuttled the ship because he was afraid the English army to catch him

3  Their leader Thomas Clarke and Seán McDermott planned a rebellion for Easter Sunday 1916.  Roger Casement was arrested while landing on a German submarine in Tralee Co. Kerry.

4  On Easter Monday a small group of men marched to the GPO some wore grey some wore dark green fore the Irish citizen army.  They put up the new flag which colours are green white and orange.

5  Tuesday 25 th April:  British troops surround the city. Over 5,000 troops arrive armed with machine guns and heavy artillery.  A fisheries patrol boat, the Helga, sails up the Liffey and attacks liberty hall and Bolands mills.

6  Saturday 29 th April:  The volunteers decide to surrender. Over 300 hundred people have died and about 1,000 have been wounded during the rising. IRELAND WILL BE FREE FROM NOW ON

7  One of the most remarkable to take place during the rising.  She was born in Co. Sligo in 1868.  Her father was a landlord and the family lived in Lissadell House Co. Sligo.  She as minister in the Labour in the first Dáil Éireann and became the first woman to become a government minister.

9  The British Prime minister Lloyd George was under pressure in England and abroad to find a solution.  His answer was the Government of Ireland Act.

10  The volunteers known as the IRA had done no fighting since Easter 1916.  After the war the leaders of the IRA were killed all apart from Countess Markieviez and Eamon de Valera because the countess was a woman and De Valera was American. INDEPENDENCE FOR IRELAND!!!!!
