Performance Evaluations Untenured faculty—no change Tenured faculty and Senior Instructor—rollover of multi- year evaluations Senior Instructors—renew on seven year cycle

Performance Evaluations (con’t) Faculty member can request “rollover” or full evaluation, approval at chair and dean level Department or school may need annually for accreditation or other reasons Annual update of the Faculty Activity System, cv, etc. for purposes of assigning a merit category and raises

Merit Evaluation Annual assignment of merit category and raises based on past performance evaluations and updated information Typically over three year period

Post-tenure review Chair reviews faculty member’s evaluations every six years with faculty member (and reports to dean) Major evaluation starts six year cycle again “Unsatisfactory” post-tenure review based on two ratings of “unsatisfactory” in teaching in performance evaluations; remediation plan will be developed For librarian, professional competency “Satisfactory” is absence of “unsatisfactory”

Post-tenure review Professor eligible to apply for “superior” in sixth year after promotion to professor or last “superior” Can apply when ready; if unsuccessful, can apply again when ready Two tenured departmental colleagues will review teaching materials and/or conduct classroom observations before writing letters assessing teaching
