LSST Observing Cadences Workshop Feb 27, 2014
2
Workshop Series on Optimizing the LSST Deployment
3
Basic Facts First of a series of community workshops oriented toward optimizing LSST deployment NOAO-LSST collaborating and cohosting Approximately 2 days during week of Aug 11 Coordinated with LSST 2014 Joint Technical Meeting Focus – cadence metrics Home page: https://lsstcorp.org/meetings/ocw https://lsstcorp.org/meetings/ocw

The first workshop will be oriented around cadence metrics. The proposed program, based on a nominal two-day workshop, is: – Communicate the boundaries and opportunities of the LSST observing cadence – Describe the expected process for establishing the cadence – Present existing cadence merit functions and plans – Breakout sessions on key merit functions – Prepare public report
5
Cadence Metrics LSST Science Requirements Document guides basic survey requirements It generally does not set requirements for cadence Guidance on cadence from science collaborations guided OpSim cadence metrics prototypes Need for review, user experience, calibration, extension Need for metric-based cadence requirements
6
Organizing Committee Richard Dublois (SLAC) Eric Gawiser (Rutgers) Željko Ivezić (LSST) Ashish Mahabal (CalTech) Knut Olsen (NOAO) Stephen Ridgway (NOAO Michael Strauss (Princeton) Beth Willman (Haverford) LSST JTM representative (TBD)
7
Workshop Orientation Release and introduction of Metric Analysis Facility (MAF) Breakout sessions on cadence metrics- possible topics – Solar System – Supernovae – AGN – Strong Lensing – Large Scale Structure – Weak Lensing – Transients – Galactic Variables
