Never point tools toward self or partners Point sharpener away from self or partners Never hold specimen in hand while cutting No Gum, mouth closed while cutting Long hair tied back Long sleeves rolled back Never remove any tool, specimen, organ, or tissue from class/lab

3 Dissection Tools Scalpel Sharpener Large and small scissors
Needle point and blunt probe Needle point and blunt forceps Large and small Bone Shears Bone saw Pail opener Preservative Straight and T-pins

4 Getting Started Select a group of 4
Select your cat and place in on a tray Remove outer bag and put aside Remove inner bag (conserving preservative) Place inner bag w/preservatives in sink Determine gender of your cat Decide on a name for your cat

5 Skinning the Cat Goggles, Gloves (S,M,L), and Aprons (tied)
Tools Needed: Tray, Scalpel, Scissors, Forceps You tube Skinning Cat

6 Identifying Integument
Photograph and label the following Epidermis Dermis Hypodermis Hair Muscle Tissue 1 Picture per group, hand written labels, all members names

7 Differentiate the 3 tissue types:

8 Clean Up Time Allow yourself 5-10 minutes to cleanup
Ensure your cat has adequate preservative Re-wrap cat in its skin Place in inner bag, and outer bag w/rubber band Place cat in class bin in prep room All fur/removed tissues in trash Spray tools, tray, and table (apron) w/cleaner Rinse at sink and towel dry tools, tray, and table Clean sink at lab table Return safety equipment and tools to proper location All group members are responsible for clean up Wash your hands and get instructor approval
