ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 1 – Cleaning All roof surfaces must be clean, dry, structurally sound, stable, well secured and free of excessive ponding water. Inspect condition of flashing details, penetrations, roof mounted equipment, curbs, walls, parapets, drains and roof edges to ensure that they are sound. Ensure that the roof deck has positive slope to drain and that moisture content of the existing substrate, insulation and deck does not exceed 15%. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 2 – Preparation Remove all loose gravel, dirt and debris to smooth the surface prior to application of the board-stock insulation. Care should be taken to preserve the integrity of the existing roof substrate whenever possible. Any unsound areas in the roof deck, insulation or flashings must be repaired or replaced. All blisters, delaminations, wrinkles and loose areas must either be cut away to sound substrate and removed, or cut open and nailed flat to the deck. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 3 – Board-Stock Installation Mechanically fasten or adhere the board-stock insulation (EPS, urethane or polyisocyanurate) to the roof deck following the manufacturer’s instructions. Wall-Bond 70 or 90, Instra-Stik or equivalent may be used for adhering the panels to the substrate. Taper the insulation panels around drains and scuppers, and add crickets or additional insulation as necessary to facilitate proper drainage of water from the roof. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION 1 2 STEP 4 – Details Reinforce around drains, scuppers, flashings, protrusions, vents, openings, etc., using ROOF MATE Mesh embedded into ROOF MATE Butter Grade or ROOF MATE Basecoat. Apply ROOF MATE Butter Grade or ROOF MATE Basecoat liberally around the area to be reinforced. While the material is still wet, embed a strip of ROOF MATE Mesh, centered over the detail, applying additional material to totally encapsulate the reinforcement fabric. Reinforce all seams in the insulation board, vertical/horizontal interfaces, roof termination points and transitions with ROOF MATE Mesh embedded into ROOF MATE Basecoat or ROOF MATE Butter Grade as described above. 3 4 <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 6 – Full Reinforcement Fabric Reinforce entire surface of the board-stock insulation panels by embedding 40” (102 cm) wide rolls of ROOF MATE Fabric into ROOF MATE Basecoat or Unibase. Sandwich the fabric between two coats of ROOF MATE Basecoat, each applied at the rate of 1 to 1½ gallons per 100 sq. ft. (.4 to .6 l/m²). If using Unibase, roll out a 4’ to 10’ (1.2 to 2.5 m) length of fabric and either spray apply or pour Unibase evenly over the top side at the rate of approximately 2 gallons per 100 sq. ft. (.8 l/m²). Work the coating evenly throughout the fabric using a broom or roller so that it is totally encapsulated, eliminating any air pockets, wrinkles or gaps, and allowing the fabric to conform to the surface contours. Overlap consecutive passes of ROOF MATE Fabric a minimum of 2” (5 cm) on each side, taking extra care to ensure that all edges are thoroughly encapsulated, tight and secure. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 7 – Coating Application Apply 1 to 3 separate coats of ROOF MATE, using airless spray or roller, at the total rate of 1.5 to 4.5 gallons per 100 sq. ft. (.6 to 1.8 l/m²), depending on warranty and/or specification requirements. Create a self-terminating flashing by extending the topcoat a minimum of 3” (7.5 cm) above all protrusions, parapet walls, etc. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over BOARD-STOCK INSULATION STEP 8 – Options Apply walk pads, ceramic roofing granules or Rhino Top as required to demarcate walkways and service areas, and/or provide non-skid characteristics. To enhance dirt release characteristics in problem areas, apply a coat of Acrysheen, which imparts a slick, semi-gloss finish that aids in maintaining a clean surface. *Rhino Top is a tough acrylic coating that is available in both smooth and textured formulations. It is ideally suited for horizontal surfaces that receive regular foot traffic. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT
