Biggest Need?
6
Muchebe Quick Facts 2,000 people in village One school - Muchebe Primary School Water sources: –Rebohocha River (typhoid) –Nymatembe River (amoeba disease) –Hibwa River (E. Coli and typhoid) –Muchebe Rainwater Catchment System (nothing!)
7
Muchebe Primary School 339 students this year, pre-school through Class 8 Classes in math, Swahili, English, geography, science
8
System already in place when we arrived at Muchebe 20,000 L storage capacity collecting only from 25% of roof area 7,000 L of water storage space wasted with two empty tanks Previous NGO work 10,000 L not connected not connected
9
Spring 2014 EWB Design Additional 50,000 L of storage space Collecting from 100% of roof area Total of 70,000 L of water 2L/student/day
10
Theory vs. Reality Rock in the way of original tank cluster design 4 tanks instead of 5, but connected smaller tanks too Still collecting water from 100% of the roof area 67,000 L capacity for water storage
