1.Why did the Japanese invade Manchuria? –To solve its economic problems and protect Japanese business interests 2.Why did Britain & France take no action against the Italian aggression? –Britain & France hoped to keep the peace in Europe 3.Why did isolationists want the Neutrality Acts passed? –They hoped to keep the US out of another war 4.What were some effects of appeasing Hitler after his invasion of the Rhineland? –Strengthened Hitler’s power in Ger; encouraged him to speed up military & territorial expansion

Aggressors Invade Nations News Report In your groups, create a news report on one of the following events. –Japan invades Manchuria and China –Mussolini Attacks Ethiopia –Hitler defies Treaty of Versailles and expands Germany –British and French Appeasement –Civil War in Spain –US Isolationism & Nonaggression Pact Each person in your group must participate: Anchor: welcomes viewers, names the news station, introduces the story, introduces the reporter Reporter: on the scene interviewing witnesses/VIPs, introduces the witnesses by name or occupation Witnesses/VIPs: answer questions (if there is a VIP in the information, someone must play that role) Work together to develop questions and answers using your notes/book. Your news report must contain historical facts and use Key terms/names. Your presentation should be 2 minutes. Write your dialogues in your notebook and rehearse. Make props.
