VA/DoD Joint Initiatives
VA and DoD share several joint initiatives aimed at improving the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of benefits and services to Veterans, Service Members, military retirees and their families. Created for VHA Overview Version 10/19/2011 VLER: What are the future plans for this partnership? VA and DoD are planning the development of a joint Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) to share benefit, personnel and health data from the start of a recruit’s military service through their transition to Veteran status for the remainder of their life. The VLER initiative will improve care and services to Veterans and active duty Servicemembers by enhancing the flow of benefit and medical information between the two Departments. VA’s Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) is a multi-faceted business and technology initiative that includes a portfolio of health, benefits, personnel, and administrative information sharing capabilities.

Saving Lives In 2007, VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide a call center Crisis Line for Veterans. Supporting Caregivers
Over 50% of Caregivers experience medium to high levels of stress as a result of the demands of their role as a Caregiver. VA offers Caregivers all this and more: Caregiver Support Line Education and Training Family Support Services In-Home Care Respite Care Aid and Attendance Compensation Home Adaptation Automobile Modification Transportation Assistance Stipend, CHAMPVA and other special services for Caregivers of eligible post 9/11 Veterans.
