The Ukrainian Genocide By Brent Cotton Richard Wood Chantal Girard Graham Peterson

Map of the Ukraine

What happened? n This was the first ever man-made famine n There was two years of drought n 7 to 10 million people died n Ukrainian crops went to feed Russian cities n Moscow sacrificed Ukrainian lives to save the Russian population

25000 Ukrainians died every day. That was 1000/hour, and 17/minute.

Who was responsible? n Bolshevik government n Joseph F. Stalin (Soviet leader) n KGB (U.S.S.R’s secret police)

Stalin was responsible for the deaths of the Ukrainians.

When did it happen? There were three famines n 1921-23 n 1932-34 n 1946-47

This is a newspaper clipping from the Chicago American reporting the second famine in 1934.

The History n Ukraine was re-conquered, and made part of the U.S.S.R in 1920 n Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, and Lazar Kaganovich considered Ukraine a threat to Russo-Centric Soviet rule n The famine was used as an effective tool to break the renaissance of Ukrainian culture

Stalin and world leaders

More History n In 1932, the Soviets increased grain production by 44% n This caused a shortage of seeds for the Ukrainians to grow for themselves n They were under the close scrutiny of the KGB and Soviet military units

A Ukrainian victim of the famine

This victim is severely malnourished

Ukrainian citizens lay at a communal grave site.

The future Ukrainian genocide is a prime example of the racial, ethnic, and religious persecution that has haunted the world. We hope it never happens again!
