Fíor nó Bréagach? There are places called Belfast, Derry and Londonderry in Canada. 97% of our place names in Ireland come from Irish. Belfast means mouth of the river at the tidal ford. It comes from the Irish Béal Feirste. This is an example of translating the meaning. There are over 200 places in Ireland with Derry in their name. What did we learn today? Anything surprising?
