Irish Immigration  In the middle of the nineteenth century, more than one-half of the Ireland population immigrated to America.  From 100,000 to 1,000,000 people came from Ireland to the United States throughout 1840-1860.  The reason people left Ireland was because of the potato famine that destroyed almost all plantations.

3. German Immigration to the U.S  Around 1,400,000 total German people immigrated to the United States from 1840-1860.  Many Germans immigrated for farm land, but most moved for the better economy in America.  Texas was also a major part for Germans as around 20,000 total Germans came to the lone star state.

4. Once in America…  Both German and Irish people had hard journeys to get to America.  Once they got there they were crammed into small houses.  They had to find jobs in factories or on railroads.  People had to live off of little things that they brought to America.  Many of the Irish would be turned down for jobs.
