Assembly 1 Calculate the amount of steel you will need by using CARD or a length of STRING to make a full scale model of your final solution. MEASURE and MARK UP the mild steel flat section, using a SCRIBER, TRY SQUARE and STEEL RULE. Cut the required length using an ADJUSTABLE HACKSAW or CHOP SAW. Use GOGGLES. Add masking tape to your piece of steel and write your name on it. On both ends of your piece of steel, draw around a 1 p piece with a scriber, to create a radius. Using an appropriate FILE, file until you create a smooth radius on each end of your steel. Be careful of the metal bur – file it off. Flash scriber try square steel ruler chop saw 1 p piece hacksaw

Assembly 2 Choose the appropriate sized SCROLLING JIG and CRANKING JIG. Using the CRANKING JIG, create a hook on the very end of your length of steel. If you haven’t achieved your required shape, use the SCROLLING or CRANKING JIG to straighten out the length of steel and use the ANVIL and a BALL PEIN HAMMER to flatten out the scroll. (Be careful not to dent the steel with the hammer blows). Use the appropriate sized SCROLLING JIG and place the hook on the inside of the jig. Apply your strength to shape the steel around the jig, creating a scroll that you are happy with. (You may need to create another hook on the opposite end of your length of steel and repeat the scroll on the other end). Flash scrolling or cracking jig

TO ADD A RIVET ~ Work out where you will join your two pieces of steel together. Measure and mark up where you will locate the holes, use a HOLE PUNCH and a BALL PEIN HAMMER, indent the location of the hole. Using a Ø 4 mm drill bit, drill holes in the steel. Use a machine vice to hold the steel in place. Wear GOGGLES! Follow instructions from your workbook/or demonstration to POP RIVET or use SNAPHEAD RIVETS. Assembly 3 Flash vice hole punch Ball pein hammer

You may need to file off any unnecessary braze on your tea light holder. Be careful, the metal is extremely HOT, use tongs and wear welding goggles. Take care! TO BRAZE ~ Follow the instructions from the Power point and assist your teacher to braze your steel scrolls. Assembly 4 Flash

Assembly 5 TO MAKE A DISH ~ Using sheet steel, MARK and MEASURE UP a 60mm x 60 mm square, using a scriber and engineer’s try square. Use the GUILLOTINE or ADJUSTABLE HACKSAW to cut the square. FILE it to ROUND the CORNERS and remove any sharp edges. MARK UP the centre of the dish by creating diagonal lines from corner to corner. Use a HOLE PUNCH and BALL PEIN HAMMER to indent the centre of the dish. DRILL a Ø 4 mm hole in the centre. Use a MACHINE VICE to hold the dish in place. scriber try square File to round the corners adjustable hacksaw

Assembly 6 Place a METAL STAKE in a vice and use either HIDE MALLET or BALL PEIN HAMMER to create a dish shape Decide where on the tea light holder you’d like to have the dish. MARK UP the centre of the steel using a STEEL RULE and INDENT it. Then, DRILL a hole in the tea light holder itself. Use a MACHINE VICE to hold the tea light holder while drilling. Ball pein hammer steel ruler

WELL DONE!! YOU’VE FINISHED THE PROJECT!! Assembly 7 Use a POP RIVET GUN and a POP RIVET to join the dish to the dish to the tea light holder. (Be as accurate as you can with the pop riveting – squeeze hard to ensure it’s firmly in place!) Choose a colour spray to FINISH your tea light holder. Take it outside or to a well ventilated area and apply thin, even coats of the spray. (Hold the can at least 30 cm away from the tea light holder!) Leave your Tea Light Holder to dry. Consider giving it as a gift !! Flash
