4 General  Introduce your purpose statement and several related points you intend to speak about  Purpose statement?  Remember: “What you want the listeners to learn or do once they have heard the information.”

5 Anecdote  Begin by telling a breif, true story that relates to your speech  Example: How I learned to snowboard

6 Statistic  Begin by quoting startling or interesting numbers related to your speech  Example: 7/10 people don’t floss!

7 Question  Begin by asking an important question  Answer the question within your speech  Example: Have you ever been unable to change a flat tire on your bike?

8 Current Event  Begin by referring to well-known recent events that related to your speech  Example: With today’s student elections...

9 Quote  Begin with a famous or compelling quote that relates to your speech  Example: John McEnroe, the six time Wimbledon Champion said, “A strong backhand is to winning tennis matches.”

10 What If?  Begin by having the audience imagine themselves in a situation that relates to your speech  Example: Imagine your home alone and suddenly the power goes out. What will you do?

12 Whats the function of a body?  Usually the longest part of the speech  Where you give most of your information

13 Tips for Writing the Body  Brainstorm what will be covered in your body How to Make the Bed  Fitted Sheet  Flat Sheet  Comforter  Pillows

14 How to Write the Body  After you have brainstormed choose some transition words  Remember: next another in addition additionally for instance (Just some examples)

15 How to Write the Body  Once you have selected main points and some transition words write out entire body in paragraph form  Be sure to explain each step of your demonstration in body of your speech

16 Final Product  Written Introduction  Body, with transition sentences  Should be several paragraphs
