3 What is LinkedIn LinkedIn is a business oriented social networking website –mainly used for professional networking –As of July 2007 more than 12 million registered users 150 industries more than 400 economic regions (as classified by the service). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LinkedIn

4 What is LinkedIn The main purpose is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact of people they know and trust in business The people in the list are called Connections Users can invite anyone (whether a LinkedIn user or not) to become a connection

5 Your Profile Provide information about you –Professional Headline (Title) –Location (City) –Current Position(s) –Past Positions –Education –Industry –Professional Goals –Expertise ETC…

6 Your Network A contact network is built up of –1 st degree connections direct connections, people you know –2 nd degree connections connections’ of connections, people your contacts know –3 rd degree connections connections’ of connections’ of connections This can be used, for example, to gain an introduction to some-one you wish to know through a mutual, trusted contact
