2 Making the Connection Only 1% of all students enrolled at institutions of higher education in the United States study abroad* (*NAFSA: Association of International Educators 2010) Studying Abroad will develop skills and give you experiences a classroom setting will never provide To an employer and graduate schools, your experience sets you apart from other students: Self Motivated Independent Cultural Sensitivity Negotiating another culture Acquiring additional language Do be cautious about touting too much of the travel/enjoyment aspect over the learning and development aspect!.

8 U.S. Companies Abroad Uniworld consists of two online directories containing information and contacts for multinational corporations. Directories includes a list of American Firms operating overseas and Foreign Firms operating in the U.S. (Online Library) Go IRISH Select the “Employers” tab and enter the name of the organization you are targeting into the keyword search. http://careercenter.nd.edu/

10 “To-Do List” while Abroad… Since you will be off-campus you can still utilize may resources: ▫Virtual or phone appointments with counselors ▫Applying on-line through Go IRISH  Don’t sign up for on-campus interviews though – work with recruiter for a specified time for phone or Skype interviews  Emailing contacts on Go-IRISH about being abroad ▫On-Line Library and other on-line resources
