BBy 1775 North Carolina was governed as a Royal Colony TThe government of the colony was created through the Fundamental Constitution RRoyal Colonies-New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia AA Royal Colony was ruled by officials appointed by the British crown

Year founded: 1663 by English colonists The original name of the colony was the Province of South Carolina, later becoming South Carolina In 1712 South Carolina separates from North Carolina, they once were combined In 1729 North Carolina became a royal English colony The colony became a state in 1788 on May 23

SSome natural resources were fish, forests (for wood), and good land. FFarming and Plantations were important there. SSouth Carolina had the most slave population that worked on plantations TThey exported products to other colonies.

South Carolina is part of the Southern Colonies. Located on the coast of North America. Good soil for crops and farms. Had many hurricanes because it was close to the Atlantic Ocean. They had a lot of rainfall due to being on the coast.

Did not have a specific religion Freedom of religion soon followed People who were Baptists and others moved there to worship freely

The Southern colonies were the warmest of the 3 regions The winters were not hard on them, so many survived. Warmer climates helped spread diseases though The warm climates made it possible to grow crops and was really helpful for plantations

Exported tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, fruit, and livestock Plantations grew cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar, indigo, and other crops Some plantations were very big, they had a main house, slave quarters, a dairy, blacksmith’s shop, laundry, smokehouse, and barns which made plantations self-sufficient Crops were traded for shoes, lace, thread, farm tools, and dishes

The name Carolina is Latin translated as “Charles” The state is named in honor of Charles the 4 th of France and then the King Charles the 1 st and Charles the 2 nd of England In 1670 the estimated population was around 200 people In 1680 the population was around 1200 people In 1690 the population increased to 3900! King Charles the 1st
