School Improvement Work Day

Continuous School Improvement The Model of Process Cycle for School Improvement provides the foundation to address school improvement and promote student achievement through a comprehensive and systemic approach consisting of the following main tasks: – gathering data – analyzing/studying the data within the context of the School Improvement Framework – developing a School Improvement Plan – implementing, monitoring and evaluating this plan

School Process Rubrics Student, Staff, Parent, & Community Surveys School Data Profile Goals Management School Improvement Plan Annual Education Report School Improvement Plan Updated School Improvement Model Program Evaluation Tool

Think About School Improvement… How is it currently done? How is it working?

Connection to School Improvement Think of a hobby, sport, or activity that you enjoy – What would you have to do to be ready to participate? – What knowledge or skills would you need? – What opportunity would need to be present? – How would you know if you were carrying out the activity the way it was intended? – What would be the result if you were skilled at the activity?

Compare answers at your table What common patterns did you find? What analogies might there be to a student’s experience in school? What processes would support a high quality experience for the participant?

Reflection What have you done to monitor the implementation and impact of your building/district plans?

Implementation is a Process!  Monitor  Monitor Implementation  Evaluate Implementation  Monitor  Monitor Impact  Evaluate Impact Adult Focused Student Focused

Are you meeting on a regular basis to monitor implementation of your plan? – What does the data say when you monitored implementation? What evidence have you collected to determine if adults are implementing with fidelity? What evidence have you collected to determine the impact of implementation? What adjustments are suggested by implementation and impact data? How might these adjustments affect the integrity of results? – How will you communicate progress with stakeholders? Monitoring Monitoring Implementation and Impact

IMPLEMENTATION  What evidence do you have that the strategy was or was not implemented with fidelity?  What evidence do you have that implementation adhered to strategies, timelines, and responsibilities? IMPACT  What impact has the strategy had on student achievement and what is the evidence?  What impact has the strategy had on subgroups and what is the evidence? Evaluating Implementation and Impact

Given your evidence, what adjustments are needed to your School Improvement Plan, if any? What do we continue to do? What do we stop doing? What do we need to “tweak”? Evaluate Plan - Conclusion

Digging Deeper… evaluating Today we have the opportunity to “dig a little deeper” on evaluating implementation and impact. http://ge.dsisd.net/GenEd/SchoolImprovement/7-Program_Evaluation_Tool_-_March_12_379902_7.docx
