Creating Questions To create questions from scratch, navigate the the Assessment menu and select Create Questions The Create Questions screen will now appear

Creating Questions On the left hand side of the screen, select the standard to align the question to. If no standard is applicable, selected Non-Standard. Once the desired standard has been located, click on Add Question

Creating Questions A middle column will now appear. The selected standard is at the top, followed by Question Text and Question Type Clicking in the Question Text box will open up the field to allow teachers to type in the question. Within the text box, there are several resources available. These include being able to put charts, images, mathematical symbols, pasting from Word, and more. Select OK when finished typing the question.

Creating Questions The question now appears in the Question Text box. Next, select Question Type

Question Types Focus has several question type available Multiple Choice: Standard multiple choice question (auto-graded) Select Multi Multiple Choice: Select all correct answers (auto- graded) Extended Response/Short Response: Essay and Short answers True/False: Standard true/false question (auto-graded) Gridded Response: Similar to many standardized tests (auto- graded) Audio Response: Students record themselves and teachers can listen. Fill in the Blank: Students fill in the right answer (auto-graded)

Creating Questions Select the question type, and then the possible correct and incorrect answers as appropriate. For multiple choice, the correct answer can be moved around to a desired position. There is also an option later to have Focus randomize the choices so that the positions are different for student In the column to the far right, name the question. If desired, set the cognitive complexity. To make sharing questions easy, create or assign a group for the question. When satisfied, select Save Question.

Creating Questions The newly created question now appears in the column to the left under the assigned standard. The newly created questions can now be added to the test via the Create Test screen.

Creating Questions The Passage question allows users to include a reading passage, image, chart, etc. and assign questions to it. To do so, select Passage from the Question Type dropdown. In the Question Text box, add the picture, chart, or reading passage. Next, name the passage and click on Add. The passage will now appear under the standard it was assigned.

Creating Questions To assign a question to a passage, click on Add Question under the desired. Choose the question type and type the question in the Question Text box. Next, in the Question Options box, name the question and select the Cognitive Complexity. In the Link to Passage dropdown, select the appropriate passage from the dropdown. Lastly, if applicable, assign the question to a question group.

Creating Questions To create a group click on Add New Group. Next, name the group and click on Save.

Creating Questions The newly created group will now appear in the Question Group dropdown. Groups are an effective way of organizing questions for easy sharing. Districts are able to create a question bank to share with a select group of teachers.

Creating Questions When finished, select Add. The question will now appear under the assigned passage.

Sharing Questions To share questions, select the Sharing Options tab from the Create Questions screen. Selecting All Users or All District Admins will share all questions with those users. Selecting Custom will allow for customizing what users see a specific group of questions.

Sharing Questions Questions are assigned to groups from the Create Questions screen in the Question Options column. To create a group, select Add New Group. To add a question to a previously created group, choose the desired group from the dropdown.

Creating Tests With Focus, districts are able to create district wide assessments. Begin by navigating to the Assessment menu and selecting Create Test. The Create Test screen now appears on the screen.

Creating Tests Opening the standards on the left hand side of the screen will display the questions. Clicking on the Item Analysis tab on the right hand side of the screen and hovering over a question from the left hand side of the screen will produce a preview of the question, a break down of how students have performed on this question(if the questions has been used), as well as a list of test where the question has been used.

Creating Tests To add a question to the test, select the checkbox to the left of the question and click on Add To Test.

Creating Tests To have Focus randomly choose question to add to the test, select the checkbox to the left of the desired standard and and select the randomizer button. Next, tell the system how many questions to choose, the cognitive complexity desired, and what question types are desired and select OK. Focus will randomly select questions, from the selected standard, and add them to the test.

Test Options From the right hand side of the screen, name the test and select the test option. District Test will allow the test to be assigned to any school within the district. Hide Questions from Teachers will allow teachers to see basic test results, but will not allow them to see the actual test questions. Large Print Font will have the test print in a large print font. Allow retakes will allow the students to retake the test after the designated time has elapsed. Auto-grade test will have the system grade all questions that it is able to. Login Pin allows users to crate a PIN that the students must enter before they are able to access the test.

District Tests Next, set the resources that will be available to the students. If more than one section has been added to the test, then more than one section box will appear. This will allows users to turn on or turn off resources for students based upon the section of the test they are working in. Once completed click on SAVE. A popup will appear stating that the once the test is saved, it cannot be changed, click OK to save the test.

Student Process A link to the test will appear on the student’s portal allowing them to take the test directly on the computer.

Answer Key Only Tests In addition to being able to create tests from scratch, there is also an Answer Key Only feature. For this, districts are able to use already created multiple choice tests and have the system auto-grade it. To create this test, navigate to the Create Test screen. From there, click on Answer Key Only test in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Answer Key Only Tests Next, selected the standard category, the number of questions, and the answer range. If a PDF or doc version of the test is available either drag and drop the file or click on select to attach it the test. Lastly, select the correct answers from the dropdown and the desired aligned standards.

Answer Key Only Tests Focus LMS allows users to import tests that have been created using ExamView. To start, navigate to the Create Test screen. Next, select Exam View Test.

Answer Key Only Tests The upload screen provides directions for exporting the test from Exam View. After exporting the file, drag and drop the file into the gray box box on the screen. The imported questions will now appear on the screen.

Answer Key Only Tests The name of the test will automatically populate based upon the name the assessment was assigned during the creation in Exam View. Select desired options and click on Save. The test now appear as a link on the student Portal page.

Assigning Tests Once a test has been created, it can be assigned to students. To assign a test to a student or groups of student, navigate to the Assessment menu and click on FAS Tests From the search screen, type in the exact name of the test, click on Search, or click on Test List to locate the desired test.

Assigning Tests Once a test is select, the FAS Test screen will display information about the selected test. Next, select the Assign tab.

Assigning Tests From the Search Screen, use more the More Search Options field to narrow down student records to a specific group to assign the test to. Groups can be broken down by grade level, scheduling, test history results, and more.

Assigning Tests A group a student who fall within the designated search criteria will appear.

Assigning Tests Set the testing window and select the desired students to assign to the test. Checking the box to the left of Student will select all students. Lastly, click on Assign. A verification will appear notifying the selected students were successfully assigned the test.

Student Process The students will receive an alert on their Portal screen notifying them that they have a test available to take. Upon clicking on the link, student will click on Please Click Here to Begin to start their test.

Student Process There are several resources available to students as they take the test. At the top of the screen, students can increase/decrease the font, have the question red to them, or flag a question. At the bottom of the screen, they can return to a previous question, wipe out their answer for a question, quickly navigate to a specific question in the test, review all answers, or advance to the next question.

Student Process When students get to the end of the test, a stop sign will display on the screen. They are able to go back and review or select Submit and Exit to turn in their test. If students submit their test, a pop-up appears letting them know that they are unable to change their answers once the test has been submitted.

Test Analysis As students complete the assigned test, their test results are automatically recorded. Districts are able to quickly and easily disaggregate the testing data. There are several ways to analyze test results. First navigate to the Assessment menu and select Analyze Test. Next, locate the desired test and select it. A report will populate that will display the question, how many attempted the question, and how many students answered the question correctly.

Test Analysis To view a breakdown on how students performed on standards in the test, navigate to the Assessment menu and select Standard Test Report. Locate and select the desired test. A report will populate showing all students who took the test and their results per standard. The report is color coded based upon the percentage the student earned.

Test Analysis The Learners Proficient Report breaks down student mastery of the tested standards. The report also displays how many students have mastered a standard. The default mastery level is set to 90%

Test Analysis To access more test analysis options, navigate to FAS Tests in the Assessment menu and select the desired test.

Test Analysis Clicking on the i button in the question box, a preview of the question will appear, along with how students have performed on the question and what tests the question can be found in.

FAS Test Tabs The Assign tab, as seen before, allows users to assign the test to a group of students. On the Info tab users are able to tweak test name, test options, testing window etc

FAS Test Tabs The Assign tab, as seen before, allows users to assign the test to a group of students. The Modify Assignments tab allows user to see has been assigned a test, un-assign tests, see when a test was assigned, who assigned the test, if the test has been completed, as well as, the teacher, period, and course the student has been assigned to take the test in.

FAS Test Tabs The View Student Answers tab will show all students answers, if they got the question correct, and what the correct answer was. Clicking on the i button will provide a preview of the question content.

FAS Test Tabs The Preview Test tab provides users with a preview of what the test will look like. The Preview Online Test tab allows the user to go through the test taking process to see what the experience will be like for the student. The results are not recorded, so there is no worry about affecting any of the test analysis reports.

FAS Test Tabs The Time Windows tab allows the user to set when this test will be considered an active test. The Incomplete Tests tab will show a list of all students who have started the assigned test, but have not submitted the test yet. Students will only display on this report if they have started the test.
