Scripture Reading 2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 (p. 1189)
19
2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 5 Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
20
2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,
21
2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
22
2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
23
2 Thessalonians 2:5-17 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
24

27
Paraphrase 46 4/5 Romans 3:19-22 No hope can on the law be built Of justifying grace; The law that shows the sinner's guilt Condemns him to his face.

Paraphrase 46 5/5 Romans 3:19-22 Jesus how glorious is Thy grace! When in Thy Name we trust, Our faith receives a righteousness That makes the sinner just. Scottish Paraphrases (1781) / Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

SERMON Romans 8:30 (p. 1135)
30
Romans 8:28-30 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
31
1 – WHAT IS GOD’S CALL? It’s supernatural, more than your background, or ‘nature’ and creation calling to you. It’s not just external – it gets to you on the inside. You can never remain the same. It’s powerful and effective: irresistible! 1 Corinthians 1:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:14.
32
2 – WHO HEARS GOD’S CALL? Why do only some people respond to the outward CALL? Is salvation dependent on my willingness to say YES? Am I really dead to God? In need of a new heart?
33
3 – WHY VALUE GOD’S CALL? It’s not just TALK. It is a call to a brand new life – a life with God for all eternity. Is it not deeply, deeply moving that God has spoken to you and has given you life! Why is anyone a Christian? Only through the grace and love of Jesus Christ.
34
Psalm 135:1-6 (p. 176) 1Praise the LORD, all you his servants! Praise his name with glad accord, 2You who serve God in his temple, in the dwelling of the LORD.
35
Psalm 135:1-6 (2/4) 3Praise the LORD, for this is fitting. He is good; his praise proclaim. Praise the LORD, for it is pleasant to sing praises to his name.
36
Psalm 135:1-6 (3/4) 4For the LORD has chosen Jacob to belong to him alone, Israèl to be his treasure, set apart to be his own.
37
Psalm 135:1-6 (4/4) 5For I know the LORD is mighty; greater than all gods is he. 6He is sovereign in the heavens, on the earth and in the sea.
