5 Mae Jemison Became the first African American woman in space in 1992 aboard the Endeavour.

6 Martin L. King, Jr. Leader during the Civil Rights Movement.
Delivered the “I Have A Dream” speech in 1963. He won the Nobel Prize in 1964.

7 Thurgood Marshall Was the African American Justice for the U.S. Supreme Court in 1967. Litigated on the Brown v. Board of Education case.

8 Barack Obama Became First President of the United States to be of African descent in 2008.

9 Rosa Parks Sparked the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott after refusing to give up her seat on a bus. Dubbed the mother of Civil Rights.

10 Jackie Robinson Was the first African American allowed to play major league baseball in 1947. Was first to be in the Hall of Fame.

11 Sojourner Truth Won the first court case against a White man to get her back her son in 1826. Made the “Ain’t I a Woman” speech in 1851.

12 Harriet Tubman Was a runaway slave in 1849.
She went back using the Underground Railroad to save hundreds more.

13 Madame C.J. Walker Created a hair care business in 1905, which made her the first self-made, female millionaire.

14 Oprah Winfrey With a net-worth of $800 million in 2000, she is believed to have been the richest African American of the 20th century.

15 Garrett Morgan He was the first person to patent the traffic signal.
He created the gas mask that soldiers used in the U.S. Army.
