1
Secondary Cells and Fuel Cells To Wing Yin F.6B (11)
2
Secondary cells A secondary cell is any kind of electrolytic cell in which the electrochemical reaction that releases energy is reversible. Rechargeable eg. Lead-acid cell, lithium battery
3
Application of Lead-acid cell Automotive and traction applications. Standby/Back- up/Emergency power for electrical installations. Submarines Sealed battery types available for use in portable equipment
4
Lithium ion battery rechargeable Use in portable consumer electronics equipment such as cameras, camcorders, electric razors
5
Lithium polymer batteries rechargeable batteries which have technologically evolved from lithium ion batteries often called Solid State cells because there's no liquid long storage lives, but low discharge rates. Used in PDAs and laptop computers
6
Fuel Cell A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy conversion device. Consists of 2 electrodes and electrolyte. consume reactants which must be replenished. Many combinations of fuel and oxidant are possible such as oxygen and hydrogen.
7
How Fuel Cell works?
8
Fuel cell Application combined heat and power (CHP) system high efficiency silent operation mobile equipment such as phones and "laptop" computers electric vehicles spacecraft
