Discuss these questions with your partner –What’s the longest journey you’ve ever taken? –Which is more important: to go somewhere or to get away from somewhere? –Would you ever go on an overland journey to more than three countries? –Do you cycle? What’s the longest bike ride you’ve ever done?

Present perfect & past simple Present perfect – have/has + past participle (worked, seen, …) - Past experiences when the time is not stated, (often with ever or never). I’ve been to London, but I have never been to Oxford. Have you ever lost your credit card? -Recent past actions (often with just). I’ve cut my finger!, He’s just arrived from the airport. -With yet and already (for emphasis). I’ve already done my homework. Have you finished yet? My brother hasn’t found a new job yet. -Unfinished states (stative verbs): started in the past and which are still true in the present. They’ve known each other for 10 years. -How long have they been married? -Since 2004.

Present perfect & past simple Past simple Finished actions in the past, when the time is mentioned or understood. (Often used with time expressions: in January, last week,…) I went to London last summer. I cut my finger this morning! He arrived from the airport at 9 o’clock. When did you visit Mary at the hospital?

Present perfect or past simple? - I’ve been to Madrid twice. (=in my life up to now) I went there in 1998 and 2002. (= on two specific occasions) - How long have you been married to Alan? (=you’re married to Alan now) How long were you married to Kate? (= you are not married to Kate now) - I’ve just bought a new computer. (= I don’t say exactly when) I bought a new computer on Saturday. (= I say when)

Tell your partner about... 1.... all the things you’ve done today. 2.... some boring things you did last weekend. 3.… a mistake you’ve made in your life. 4.... the worst food you’ve ever eaten. 5.… the most exhausting thing you did yesterday. 6.… something you’ve just done. 7.... something you’ve never done but would like to do.
