1. What are some of the silly rules you remember having to obey as a child?

2. As a group, write down as long of a list as you can come up with for the following question. What are some rules often associated with church life that are extra-biblical (i.e. not in found in the bible)?

3. The Pharisee’s were the religious people of Jesus’ time. Should we read scripture from the perspective of the Pharisees since we are also religious? In what ways would that change how you see yourself?

4. What experiences have you had, whether small frustrations or big hurts in your life, when “rules” trumped relationships?

5. What is the difference between having good disciplines in your life and being a legalist rule keeper?

Read Matthew 11|28-30 6. What does Jesus mean by “yoke?” How is Jesus’ yoke easy?

Read Hosea 6|6 7. What is God saying he really wants from us? Can obedience ever replace relationship with God?

8. What are some things in your relationship with God that have become more of an obedience out of obligation than an obedience out of relationship?

Ephesians 2|1-10 9. The rules of God’s Kingdom (i.e. 10 Commandments and such) help us to live life the way God designed it, but they cannot save us. Why did God set it up this way?
