HONEY HARVEST In 1946 year our town was given a new name – Dzierżoniów. The name comes from a surname of a famous Polish bee-keeper Jan Dzierżon. He was a priest and a bee-keeper who invented many things very useful for apiculture all over the world. H HH Honey Harvest is an apiarian fair, during which take place: exhibitions, lectures and contests connected with apiculture. You can also taste different honey products and different kinds of honey. During the Fair you can see many folk groups from all over the world dancing and singing. Besides, the Handicraft and Folk Art Fair takes part, where you can see all the branches of handicraft: folk sculpture, embroidering, stained-glass windows, art smithing, ceramics and many, many others.

SAINT GEORGE’S FAIR Every year in Dzierżoniów takes place a fair connected with the name of the town patron – Saint George. It’s very popular among the citizens who willingly take part in it every year. As St. George was a knight, we can see a lot of knights in our town then. The Fair starts with a Knights Parade through the town streets. Then they attend the mass in the St. George’s Church. Next with the bishop they go to the place (near the Medieval defensive town walls, behind the St’ George’s Church) where the Fair takes place. When you come to the Fair you feel as if you are in a town from Middle Ages. There are knights with horses and swords and the knight fights take place. We can see Medieval costumes and traditions (dances and songs) then. There are also stalls with beautiful handikrafts and bee-keeping products. At the and of the Fair in the evening there is a knight show with Medieval music and dances.
