FERPA The Registrar is the official recorder and keeper of all student academic records, past and present. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and grants the student the right to inspect and review their own educational records, to request amendment of records, and to have some control over the disclosure of information from these records.

FERPA Schools may disclose "directory information” without consent. However, schools must tell students about directory information and give students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose their directory information. Schools must notify students annually of their rights under FERPA. The actual means of notification is left to the discretion of each school. https://intranet.laroche.edu/Registrar/pdfs/DirectoryInformationAnnualNotice.pdf
