Objective 1 – Strategy 1 CURRICULUM - WHAT WE WANT STUDENTS TO KNOW Develop and implement data-driven curriculum that provides instructional materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners Activities/TaskYear 3Comments Curriculum maps to ensure alignment Chose not to focus on curriculum maps for writing because there are new standards for English Language Arts – CCSS Need for alignment with new standards and new materials Supplemental materials to fill gaps Determined need for adoption of new writing curriculum, rather than purchase of supplemental materials Needs-based adoption of new materials Implemented K-5 Language Arts program in all elementary classrooms Reviewed 6-12 Language Arts program for selection and adoption of new literature program Reviewed Spanish and recommended adoption of new materials. Objective 1 – Strategy 2 ASSESSMENT - HOW WE WILL KNOW STUDENTS HAVE LEARNED Instructional staff at all levels (administrators, teachers, instructional paraeducators) have the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to appropriately utilize data to guide decisions which support increased achievement for all students Activities and TaskYear 3Comments Provide training in the use of desktop data tools to analyze the instructional needs of students Explored use of Homeroom Dashboard to provide user friendly assessment data to multiple users Implementation of Homeroom Dashboard slated for 2013-14 School improvement planning teams utilize both qualitative and quantitative data Learning improvement teams utilize data, in the development and monitoring of school improvement plans School improvement plans align with the district’s Theory of Action School Improvement Plans focused on the district’s Theory of Action 5D Cadre/schools refined their Area of Focus and identified specific measures of success Instructional staff participate in the school improvement planning process Instructional staff members participated in the school improvement process = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 1 – Strategy 3 INSTRUCTION – HOW WE WILL HELP STUDENTS LEARN Instructional staff at all levels have knowledge, skills and abilities to seamlessly integrate the Five Dimensions (5D’s) of Teaching and Learning Activities/TasksYear 3Comments Provide training for instructional staff on the 5Ds Continued partnership with Center for Educational Leadership Three full day overviews – all staff participated 5D+ Evaluation Rubric Training for all administrators Planned professional development for teachers moving to new evaluation system next year. Objective 2 – Strategy 1 SUPPORT SYSTEMS – WHAT WE WILL DO TO SUPPORT STUDENTS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of remediation programs and supports for students who may be at risk for on-time graduation. Activities/Tasks Year 3Comments Offer online credit recovery and remediation options for grades 6- 12 Utilized APEX at LMS for some students Continued to use all seats available for students Reviewed program options and renewed APEX for next school year Explore alternative program options for grades 6-12 Met with representatives from Drop Out Prevention Program Clearly articulate graduation requirements and assessment options to students and parents 6-12 Senior Parent Night, 8 th Grade Parent Night, Freshman Orientation Counselors conducted individual conferences with each student to plan courses and schedules for next year at LHS Family Access – Graduation requirement module = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

SUPPORT SYSTEMS – WHAT WE WILL DO TO SUPPORT STUDENTS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of remediation programs and supports for students who may be at risk for on-time graduation. Activities/Tasks Year 3Comments Develop effective Student Learning Plans for at risk students in categorical programs Student Learning Plans developed for at-risk students (LAP, ELL etc) Provide extended learning opportunities for at risk populations in math and literacy Title I/LAP served identified students Implemented block schedules for literacy and mathematics at LMS Support for seniors to complete Collections of Evidence in math and reading Continuing work to develop intervention options at elementary level Research and implement transition strategies for K-12 students (Reconfiguration) = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 2 – Strategy 2 SUPPORT SYSTEMS –PARTNERSHIPS WITH FAMILIES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of opportunities and events to increase student and parent involvement in the planning for on-time graduation in grades 6-12. Activities/TasksYear 3Comments Increase parent and student understanding of graduation requirements and options beginning in middle school Eighth grade parent night held at LHS (Open House) Students at LMS learned about graduation requirements in classrooms 5 th Grade Parents “Move Up Night” Increase student and parent involvement in academic and co- curricular activities “WE Day” and follow up with LHS student leadership Video Production Class Robotics Club Ongoing activities to engage students and parents including LINK, WEB, Cougar Path, etc. Gather parent input to improve Student Learning Plans and partner with parents Parents provided input on learning plans through ELL Parent Nights, Title/LAP parent meetings and during conferences Research and evaluate supplementary materials for extended learning and remediation 6-12 Language Arts Program Review involved teachers from Special Education and ELL New adoption provides resources to support ELL and Special Ed Request approval of supplementary materials from Curriculum Council New program adopted at June 5th board meeting = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Reflecting on Year 3 Significant progress with 5D Cadre to deepen understanding of our instructional framework as a tool for increasing student learning School teams implemented “Area of Focus” grounded in 5D Framework 5D+ Evaluation Rubric Training for all district administrators Implemented new K-5 language arts program in all classrooms Adopted new instructional materials for grades 6-12 English/language arts aligned with Common Core State Standards Adopted new materials for Spanish I, II and III

Focus for 2013-2014 Continue partnership with Center for Educational Leadership to deepen our work using an instructional framework to increase student learning Implement new teacher evaluation system focused on 5D framework and teacher growth Review and recommend new materials for 6-12 science. Professional development at the elementary level focused on writing instruction Implement English/language arts materials in grades 6-12 Implement new Spanish textbooks at the high school
