2. OBJECTIVE In this presentation students will be provided with a better understanding of the law to avert them from unlawful behavior.

3. TWO BASIC TYPES OF CRIMES FELONIES MISDEMEANORS

4. Less serious Penalty: Probation / Fines / Court Costs Up to one year in county jail Examples: Petit Theft, Simple Battery/Assault, cyber bulling, Stalking, Criminal Mischief (vandalism).

5. FELONY Most serious type of crimes Penalty: More than one year in a state penitentiary up to Life in Prison. Examples – Murder, Rape, Grand Theft, Sale/Delivery Controlled Substance * Circumstances Juveniles can be charged as an adult Juvenile is 14 years or older charged with a violent felony Juvenile is 16 years or older charged with any felony

6. Assault – 784.011 An assault is an intentional, unlawful threat by word or act to do violence to a person, coupled with an apparent ability to do so, creates a well-founded fear in such person, & such violence is imminent. Aggravated Assault Same as above but made while displaying a weapon. Battery - F.S. 784.03 Actually & Intentionally touches or strikes another person against the will of that person or intentionally causes bodily harm to another person. Aggravated Battery While committing battery, causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disability or disfigurement. Uses a Deadly Weapon

PRINCIPAL /ACCESSORY AKA: to aid and abet You do not have to be primary person in a crime to be charged with the crime You only have to help Example: getaway driver, look out Florida Statute 777.011 – Whoever commits any criminal offense, whether felony or misdemeanor, or aids, abets, counsels, hires, or otherwise procures such offense to be committed, is committed, or has attempted to be committed, may be charged, convicted & punished pursuant to this Statute. http://static.muveez.com/media/drive.jpg

SEXTING Florida Statute 847.0141 - Effective October 1, 2011 A MINOR commits the offense of sexting if he or she knowingly uses a computer, or any other device capable of electronic data transmission or distribution, to transmit or distribute to another MINOR any photograph or video of any person which depicts nudity & is harmful to minors. Consequences: - 1 st. Offense – non-criminal offense punishable by a teen court appearance and judgment or up to 8 hours of community service and or a $60.00 fine. - - 2 nd.
