Warm Up Questions What do you wear when you go to school? What do you wear when you hang out? What do you wear on special occasions? What do you wear to work? In what situations do you find dress codes? In what situations would you discuss someone ’ s clothing or appearance?

Culture Note United States (dress code) 1. Safe clothing that is not too revealing or offensive United Kingdom (uniform) 1. From 16 to 18, students are required to follow a dress code or wear a uniform, depending on the school. A typical uniform include a blazer, white shirt, pants or a skirt, a v-neck sweater, a black shoes

Cultural Note (2) Suppose that an American student wears jeans with holes to a school in the US. How might the student ’ s teacher or the other American students view the student? 1. Description : What we see or hear 2. Interpretation : What we think about what we see or hear 3. Evaluation : Whether we think something is good or bad

Reflection What purpose do dress codes play in society? You have probably seen someone dressed inappropriately for a situation. How did you feel and what did you do? Describe an experience where you have felt uncomfortable/self-conscious because of the way you were dressed.
