Why would we do this? Expand your wardrobes by repairing, redesigning, and recycling garments. Alter garments to improve their fit. Restyle and update garments to better fit your wardrobe needs.

Repairing Clothes Patching - is the technique of sewing a small piece of fabric over a hole in a garment. Fixing closures: buttons, zippers Pulled seams Altering length

Average Cost for Mending & Alterations Shorten trousers--$7.00/pair adults $4.00/pair children's Let down hem/lengthen garment--trousers priced same as above. Narrow skirt $8.00, full skirt $3.00 per foot of hem. Shorten sleeves--$15.00/shirt with cuffs & button plackets. $5.00/shirt without cuffs. Replace buttons $1.00 per button. If buttons are lost entirely, the cost of new buttons should be added. Tear in seamline--$1.00/inch. Darning starts at $3.00 per hole for small holes, hourly rates of $12.00 per hour for particularly large or numerous holes. Beginners can charge $10-15 per hour/ Experienced $35-40

Redesigning Clothes Redesigning – to change a garment in it’s function or purpose. Restyling – giving a garment a new and different look.

Appliqués, Embroidery, Dyeing Appliqués - is taking a small piece of fabric cut into any shape and attaching it to a garment for a decorative touch. –Fusible Fabric – sheer adhesive fabric that joins two other fabrics together when ironed. Embroidery – decorative hand or machine stitching that creates a pattern. Tie-dyeing - one of the earliest known methods of decorating fabric.

Recycling Clothes Recycling- to reuse in some manner Patchwork- small piece of fabric cut into pieces then sewn together by hand or machine to form a pattern
