2 Altercation (noun)  Synonym: quarrel  Antonym: agreement  A noisy quarrel  Their altercation disturbed the whole class, even other classes could hear.

3 Apex (noun)  Synonym: peak  Antonym: valley  Highest point; summit  We finally reached the apex of the mountain, and gawked at the beautiful view.

4 Ballyhoo (noun)  Synonym: Socialization  Antonym: Putting Down  Talk or writing that is designed to get people excited or interested in something  The ballyhoo in school is spreading around very fast; everyone has heard the gossip.

5 Bona Fide (adj.)  Synonym: genuine  Antonym: false  Made in good faith without fraud or deceit; genuine  The restaurant's food is bona fide, there is not one flaw.

6 Caucus (noun)  Synonym: meeting  closed meeting of members of group united to promoted a cause, issue or idea.  We had a long caucus, and talked about our next rally.

7 Disdain (noun)  Synonym: contempt  Antonym: admiration  A feeling that someone/ something is bad, worthless or low; scorn or contempt  I feel disdain for my peer, he did nothing for the project.

16 Translucent (adj.)  Synonym: partially see-through  Antonym: partially non-see through  Allows light to pass through, but blurring it so images can’t be seen clearly- a distortion occurs  The blanket is translucent and somewhat see- through.

19 Antidote (noun)  Synonym: anti- venom  something that relieves or prevents; a remedy that counteracts the effects of poison  I needed an antidote after I was bitten by a poisonous animal.

20 Autonomous (adj.)  Synonym: Independent  Antonym: Dependent  Independent  I was autonomous in the process of doing the project, because my partner was absent.

21 Bolster (verb)  Synonym: strengthen  Antonym: weaken  To support; to strengthen  I bolstered my muscles by working out for hours a day.

22 Candor (noun)  Synonym: honesty  Antonym: falseness  Honesty; sincerity  To be a good friend you must have candor, so people can trust you.
