3 Booklet Requirements Important Guidelines to Remember Reports must be typed Information must be relayed in your own words Late booklets will be penalized Failure to turn in booklet will result in missing the class trip.

4 Symbol Descriptions Illustrations must be drawn and colored by hand Write a paragraph describing each one and explaining why it was chosen as a state symbol. Picture and description should be on facing pages Block print will be done in class

9 Historical Reports History of the International Falls area Another option is to select a specific business or building and research its history Create a journal entry portraying a day, or span of time in the life of one of the following: A pioneer, Civil War soldier, voyageur, or lumberjack. This must be your own creation and not downloaded off the internet Make sure the dates are chronologically correct. History of the Dakotah or Ojibwe People

12 Minnesota Poem Guidelines: Poem must have at least two stanzas (minimum of 12 lines) Does not have to rhyme Should not be a report, but in stanza form (No Acrostic!)

13 Interview Interview with an elder who has lived most of their life in Minnesota Select someone close to you Make up at least 12 open ended questions regarding what life was like (similarities and differences) when he/she were young Report must be written in paragraph form (like a story)

14 Technical Process Report Must be 2-3 pages Examples include: Logging Farming Trapping Maple sugar/syrup Deer processing Wild rice harvesting and processing Commercial fishing Mining Paper Making Terminology or wording must be appropriate Must include visual aids such as diagrams, illustrations, drawings, photographs, or charts There must be sequential steps in the process using numbers, bullets, or an outline format Must include facts

15 Technical Report Guidelines Organization: Title (place in header) Materials List (Industry specific materials used in the process) Introduction (Paragraph) Process Steps Sequential steps in the process, using numbers or bullets Include diagrams, illustration, drawings or charts (4-5) throughout Conclusion (Paragraph –tying the past to present in a few sentences) Glossary of key terms All terms should be in bold print

19 Grading Late booklets will be will be penalized. If the booklet is not turned in you will not go on the trip Reports from the Minnesota Booklet will go on the students Literacy grade as they are due. Students will receive a grade for the entire MN Booklet on their Social Studies grade.
