Chapter 10 Lesson 5 Objective: To find the volume of a prism.
2
Theorem 10-6 Volume of a Prism Volume HeightBase Area h Remember the “Base Area” formula will be determined by the base shape.
3
Volume of a Prism length width height Volume = length x width x height
4
Example 1: Volume of a Prism What is the volume of a prism with dimensions 10 cm, 8 cm and 5 cm. 5 cm 10 cm 8 cm Volume = length x width x height Volume = 10 x 8 x 5 Volume = 400 cm 3
5
Example 2: Volume of a Prism 10 cm 4 cm 2 cm What is the volume of the prism? V = l x w x h V = 4 x 2 x 10 V = 80 cm 3
6
Example 3: Volume of a Rectangular Prism What is the volume of the prism? V = ℓwh = (13)(3)(5) = 195 cm 3
7
Example 4: Volume of a Triangular Prism 4 cm 5 cm 14 cm Volume = ½ (length x width) x height Volume = ½ (5 x 4) x 14 Volume = ½ (20) x 14 Volume = 10 x 14 Volume = 140cm 3 Find the volume of the triangular prism.
