Realism A style of writing, developed in the 19 th century, that attempts to depict life accurately, as it really is, without idealizing or romanticizing it.

Naturalism A 19 th century literary movement that was an extension of realism and that claimed to protryy li8fe exactly as if it were being examined through a scientist’s microscope.
