4 Key Points in a Healthy Relationship ●No relationship is ever perfect ●Relationships end because they mismanage conflicts and of miscommunication ●Be comfortable with who you are and have confidence in your abilities ●Accept others for who they are and not who they aren't ●Communication should be clear and honest

5 Relationships between students A healthy relationship between students is very important because you must establish an understanding of your goals and career aspirations, as well as other student’s aspirations. It is important to understand that although students and their peers may not always see eye to eye, it is crucial that they get along and work together as a team to have success in the future.

6 Relationships between patient and caregiver A healthy relationship between a caregiver and a patient is very important. An HCP must work diligently to build trust with the patient to increase the Effetiveness Of care. As a caregiver, you must establish trust and honesty. This will be the foundation of a healthy relationship between a caregiver and patient and promotes healing.

7 Communication ●Relationships can end because of miscommunication ●Communication and conflict resolution skills can be learned, there are many training opportunities available! ●Being able to work out conflicts and to communicate can help you in your job, at home, and at school ●It is okay to have conflicts as long as you have skills and motivation to work through the conflict

8 Rules for Dealing with Anger 1. Take a time out and remove yourself momentarily from the conflict or conversation 2. Never block someone from leaving or follow after them 3. Once you’re away from the situation, do things to soothe yourself and don’t engage in negative self talk. 4. Wait to reconvene until you’re both feeling normal again 5. After it is resolved, don’t bring up the conflict again 6. Use communication skills to be sure you really understand each other

9 Get help if: 1. You have reason to believe that you’re in over your head and can’t handle things alone 2. You’re irritable all the time and can’t get a handle on it 3. The fighting is intense and frequent 4. There’s physical violence of any type 5. You see a cycle of angry outbursts followed by feelings of remorse

Nick talks too long with his friends on the telephone and doesn’t finish the report on time. 2.Shay has trouble admitting she provided poor service to a customer. She made excuses and blames the customer. Scenarios Determine solutions for the following scenarios:

11 managing conflict 1. Be respectful and when you have q problem,, voice a complaint rather than a criticism a. Complaint: I get uncomfortable when your music is too loud and I can’t concentrate.b. Criticism: What is wrong with you? Don’t you know that playing loud music is immature? 4. Use good listening skills; make sure that you understand that each other is saying, especially when discussing a difficult issue 5. Build a foundation of positive feelings with one another; tell each other what you appreciate; and look out for each other-- strive to have more positive than negative interaction 6. When you catch yourself being defensive, overly critical, or blaming, stop! 7. Do something to change the tone of an argument or to reduce the intensity 12. Discuss what both of you can do to make it better in the future III. Anger A. It’s a normal and natural feeling D. Anger can: Wound you and your relationship or get you fired too. Be so blinding that it keeps you from seeing another point of view or your own role in the conflict.
