1 This year, one of our goals is to become the best writers EVER!!! In order to do that, we must practice! Today, as a review, we will look at “parts of speech.” 1.Underline or highlight the definition of a noun, a verb, and an adjective. 2.Complete exercises 1-8 on the three parts of speech – nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

5 Topic Sentence = Top Bun  It is the 1 st sentence of your paragraph.  It must be indented!  Tells the reader your topic, or what you are going to write about in the paragraph. Introduction/Topic Sentence

6 Topic Sentence = Top Bun My sister has some disgusting and inconsiderate habits. First, she loves to chew on toothpicks. Another bad habit she has is walking through the house with her muddy boots. Last, she leaves hair all over the shower and the soap. She doesn’t bother to rinse the shower out or to rinse the soap off. If my sister lived alone, she could be the slob that she is without anyone else caring, but since she lives with other people, it would help if she showed a little more consideration for her family. Introduction/Topic Sentence

7 First Detail Sentence = LETTUCE  It must SUPPORT your topic sentence.  It should not be the most important detail.  It must come RIGHT after the topic sentence. First Detail Sentence

What humanity owes to personalities like Buddha, Moses, and Jesus ranks for me higher than all the achievements of the inquiring and constructive mind.” (Einstein).
