Shark Attack BY: Erik, Colton, and as always….. Matt Manning

The Before It was a nice summer day in the Hawaii waters. This man named Pablo Sanchez, was minding his own business when all of a sudden a Great White shark came out of nowhere. He never saw it coming!

The Attack!

The Victim speaks out! My name is Pedro Sanchez and I was a shark attack victim on January 19, 2007. I was out surfing my favorite waves on the coast of Maui, Hawaii. When I felt something hit me like a truck. The shark hit me with enough force to bring me out of the water. I lost my left arm and my right leg. It was a horrific tragedy.

Marine Biologist Here is some information about the great white shark that I found: DIET AND FEEDING HABITS Young great white sharks eat fish, rays, and other sharks. Adults eat larger prey, including pinnipeds (sea lions and seals), small toothed whales (like belugas), otters, and sea turtles. They also eat carrion (dead animals that they have found floating dead in the water). Great whites do not chew their food. Their teeth rip prey into mouth-sized pieces which are swallowed whole. A big meal can satisfy a great white for up to 2 months.

Marine Biologist continued Sharks have three well-developed sense that help the shark find its prey. Sharks have three well-developed sense that help the shark find its prey. Smell- the sharks have good sense of smell to locate their food. Smell- the sharks have good sense of smell to locate their food. Electric currents- this sense senses the muscle movements in other animals. (This maybe why the shark attacked the suffer) Electric currents- this sense senses the muscle movements in other animals. The sharks Lateral line system and Electric currents senses must have gone off when the surfer entered its territory. These types of things don’t happen very often. These people just have to realize their surroundings and leave nature alone. I don’t see why this is a big deal anyway. The Sheriff Speaks! The Great White Sharks Habitat -Dweller of neurotic (near shore) waters -Ranges from the surf line to well offshore from the surface and to depths over 250m. What The Great White Eats. -Is a macro predator—Know to be active during the daytime -Preys on marine animals such as—seals, sea lions, elephant seals, dolphins also preys on fish (including other sharks and rays)

The Sheriff Continued Why the shark attack the teenager.. the teenager had on a toe ring that was shiny ( shiny things attract sharks). the teenager was making a lot of noise which also attracts sharks.. the teenager was on a golden surf board which resembles a Twinkie and everyone knows that sharks love their Twinkies. My decision on closing the beach. sharks are not prone to attack humans.. It only happens once in a great while.. If he didn’t look like a Twinkie then he would not have been attacked.. if he wasn’t wearing a toe ring he would not have been attacked

Facts about Great Whites GREAT WHITE SHARK ATTACKS Most great white attacks are not fatal. Great whites account for about 1/2 to 1/3 of all 100 annual reported shark attacks. Of these 30-50 great white attacks, only 10-15 people die. GREAT WHITE SHARK ATTACKS Most great white attacks are not fatal. SWIMMING Great whites are propelled through the water by their powerful tails. The fins are only used for balance. Their movement is more like an aircraft's flight than other fishes swimming. They average about 2 mph (3.2 kph) but can swim 15 miles per hour (24 kph) in short bursts. SWIMMING Great whites are propelled through the water by their powerful tails.
