Deploying the Niskin bottle The Niskin bottle is made of plastic and teflon and is used to collect water samples for metal analysis. Niskin bottle in the open configuration. When the messenger hits the white rod it releases the cables and the ends of the bottle (plumbers helpers) snap shut.
