4 Terms of Reference To assess management of e-waste and its impacts on the environment in the region; To review and identify drawbacks in the existing policies, strategies, laws, regulations and guidelines on e-waste management in the region and recommend for their harmonization; To Identify and recommend adoption of best practices of green ICTs in the region;

5 Terms of Reference… To coordinate and follow up the work of the relevant ITU Study Group(s) and facilitate the development of regional recommendations or contributions relating to the work of those Study Group(s) or other relevant international and regional organizations. To create public awareness and capacity building on e-waste management and Green ICT in the region Follow-up on work of the EAC Sectoral Committee for Transport, Communications & Meteorology

6 Activities Compiled country status on E-waste from the 5 EACO Member states In 2013 the group formulated a Model Framework on E-Waste Management (posted on EACO website) Concept paper on Green ICTs is ready and comprehensive strategy will be unveiled

7 Activities… Conducting awareness on E-waste, workshops Planning to conduct capacity building on E- waste amongst members and other stakeholders. Planned for April 2015 Plans to undertake E-waste survey to establish among others, statistics, impact
