What is a demonstrative adjective? Demonstratives help you to differentiate between items or people based on their proximity to the speaker or listener. EJ: This pen. These pens. That pen. Those pens. In English we have 4 demonstrative adjectives for distance and quantity.

What about Spanish? Spanish also uses demonstratives. Based on what you already know about agreement in both quantity and gender, what can you guess about Spanish demonstratives??? RIGHTY-O! There will be at least twice as many, because Spanish always recognizes gender of nouns.

But that’s not all… In Spanish, there is one more set of demonstrative adjectives. We use them for things that are equally far away from the speaker and the listener. Think about that shirt you like way up high on the wall at Hollister.
