Transaction Services Egyirba Walker-Arthur Senior Program Manager, Career Program Hello everyone and welcome to the SEO Transaction Services program webinar. My name is Egyirba Walker-Arthur and I manage SEO’s Transaction Services Program. I’m going to speak today about what transaction services is, our participating partner firms, why you would want a career in Transaction Services, what you’ll be doing, and the ideal candidate for this program. Let’s get started!

What is Transaction Services?
Transaction Services provides a wide range of transaction, investment and information services that supports the needs of small businesses, middle market companies, large corporations, governments, municipalities, financial institutions and institutional investors. Strategy Project Management Sales Product Development First things first – What is Transaction Services? Transaction Services within an investment bank provides a wide range of transaction, investment and information services that supports the needs of small businesses, middle market companies, large corporations, governments, municipalities, financial institutions and institutional investors. In a nutshell, Transaction Services can be described as project management within financial services. In transaction services you are responsible for managing internal and external processes. Externally, you will work with bankers and counsel to make sure transaction documents and processes meet SEC regulations. Internally you will produce memoranda for equity commitments, debt commitments or the sales force. The transaction services program is designed for people who are interested in working on strategy, project management, sales and product development. SEO places interns in 3 firms for TS – Citi, DB and JPM. Let’s talk a bit about the structure of the TS internship with our partners.

SEO Transaction Services Program Participating Partners
Citi Global Transaction Services (GTS) The Global Transaction Services (GTS) summer analyst program at Citi spans ten weeks. You will be placed on an assignment within one of the four GTS business areas located in New York: Global Cash Management, Global Trade Services, or Securities and Fund Services. The type of project and deliverable vary for each analyst according to placement and business need. Citigroup Global Transaction Services is a leading provider of integrated cash management, trade, and securities services for corporations, financial institutions, intermediaries and governments around the world. Citi’s GTS business offers a broad range of cash management, treasury, trade, custody, clearing, fund administration, securities financing, depositary receipt, and agency and trust services. They provides clients with timely, accurate information and dynamic, Web-based tools to effectively manage their securities portfolios, financial positions, working capital and supply chain around the world. Citi’s GTS summer analyst program is a 10 – 12 week one in which you would be placed in one of three core businesses: Cash Management, Securities and Fund Services and Trade Services and Finance.

Deutsche Bank Corporate & Investment Bank: Transaction Banking (CIB:TB) The Deutsche Bank CIB:TB program is an 8 – 10 week long program in which you will work with a full range of products and services. You’ll also meet with corporate clients and financial institutions to achieve solutions for them. The Transaction Banking main business units will offer numerous opportunities during your internship. Within Cash Management, you’ll help to consolidate cash flows and short-term investments. In Trade Finance, you’ll experience our ‘one-stop shop’ for trade finance and risk advisory products. With Trust & Security Services you’ll help to administer the closure of securities transactions. The Transaction Banking arm of the Corporate and Investment Bank at DB employs over 4,300 people in 42 countries. DB’s Transaction Banking Business offers a multitude of services to our clients and provide the most up-to-date recommendations and guidance. Our business units include Cash Management, Trade Finance, Capital Market Sales and Trust & Securities Services. DB’s summer analyst program in Transaction Banking is an 8-10 week long program which provides an intensive learning experience where you’ll work with a full range of products and services and meet with corporate clients and financial institutions to achieve solutions for them. Placement areas within this program are Cash Management, Trade Finance and Trust & Security Services

J. P. Morgan Treasury & Securities Services (TSS) The Treasury & Securities Services (TSS) Summer Analyst Program is a ten-week, accelerated, intensive program that offers work assignments interspersed with training sessions, networking events and scheduled opportunities to meet with senior leaders. Summer Analysts are typically placed into one of the following groups: Product, Segment, Strategy, Sales or Risk. Additional business areas where analysts may participate include Client Service, Operations, Technology, and Marketing. TSS at JPM provides innovative payment, collection, liquidity management, trade finance, commercial card and information solutions to corporations, financial services institutions, middle market companies, small businesses and governments. TSS help its clients optimize cash flows from transactions to maximize the value of their working capital. Some of TSS’s products include: Automated Clearing House, Escrow Services, Foreign Exchange, Corporate Debit Card, and Healthcare and Public Sector Industry Solutions. The Treasury & Securities Services (TSS) Summer Analyst Program is a ten-week, intensive program. Interns are typically placed into one of the following groups: product, segment, strategy, sales or risk.

SEO Transaction Services Program Requirements
Interns must possess the following skills and attributes to have a successful summer and career in Transaction Services: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 Confidence, creative thinking and strong problem solving skills Ability to work in teams Preferred majors include: finance, accounting, economics, engineering, operations research or business management and administration. This program is primarily open to juniors only. Seniors who will have one semester to complete at the time of the internship may be considered. Graduating seniors are not eligible for this program. Students with F-1 visas or CPT/OPT work authorization are NOT eligible for the Transaction Services program. Internships are located in New York. Participating in the SEO Transaction Services program will offer you world class online and in-person training, you will also have the opportunity to meet and network with senior management working in transaction services at Citi , DB and JPM. All internships are located in New York City. You will receive unparalleled mentoring during the summer and have access to a network of over 6000 SEO alumni Candidates must have a G.P.A to apply and the program is open to juniors only. Typical majors for Transaction Services have included: finance, accounting, economics, engineering, operations research or business management and administration.

Interns must possess the following skills and attributes to have a successful summer and career in Transaction Services: Attention to detail and strong work ethic Quick learner and ability to communicate effectively (strong presentation skills are KEY) Solid understanding of accounting principles Solid quantitative, analytical and technical skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office (esp. Excel and PowerPoint) Strong understanding of financial industry We are looking for students who have: Strong attention to detail Strong work ethic Who are quick learners Able to communicate effectively Possess a solid understanding of accounting principles and have solid quantitative, analytical and technical skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus as is a strong understanding of the finance industry Confidence, creative thinking, problem solving skills are key Above all, you should possess passion, hunger and drive for the profession

Recommended Coursework: At your College/University: Accounting Economics Finance Zoologic: The Balance Sheet The Income Statement Cash Flow Statement Income Statement Analysis Ratio Analysis In order to prepare for the SEO Transaction Services program, at your College/University, you should take courses in Accounting, Economics and Finance. Most of you have started taken Zoologic courses, these courses will provide you with a better understanding of the financial services industry and help you hit the ground running when you begin your internship.
