Project Background – Key challenges faced First time Excise Department was chosen as the Nodal Agency to keep a tab on bootleggers and offenders. There is a large arbitration opportunity for illicit liquor operators and bootleggers during general elections. – Hence, need for strong control and regulation mechanism Severe manpower, infrastructure crunch. 2 A comprehensive communication mechanism was required to execute the operations during General Elections 2014. Innovative Use of Social Media Innovative use of Social Media during General Elections 2014 Multiple Groups were created. Each group was headed by the Excise Commissioner Groups at Division and District levels. Real time information sharing on the respective groups. On the spot deliberation and decisions Desktop based SMS alert system Multiple groups of officers were created in the system Non Smart phone users were reached Multicasting of messages Microsoft Lync along with Web Camera and Mic were installed in 35 districts across the state. Organized online meetings.
