4. STTI trains about 1200 Maintainers every Year.

7. Hostel Facility
Three hostels to accommodate the trainees.
1.SHIVNERI - Close to Byculla Railway Station Capacity -70 trainees.
2.TORANA - R&D building of Workshop -Capacity -14 trainees.
3. RAIGAD - Next to S&T Workshop,
Capacity -28 trainees.
Total 112 trainees can be accommodated in the hostels at a time.

8. Hostel Facility:-
Presently, about 140 trainees are attending various courses.

9. Due to poor retention rate of newly recruited Maintainers in S&T Departments. STTI has decided that in addition to imparting training , it is necessary to improve the facilities in Hostel, so that better impression can be made on new recruit about job conditions .

10. Improvements made in recent months:-
.A vehicle (27 seater mini bus) has been provided to facilitate Field visit/Study Tour of trainees w.e.f
Indoor Facilities:-
Table Tennis – started.
TV with DTX installed
Treated safe drinking water arranged for all hostels
In all the rooms, number of ceiling fans increased from 1 to 2.
200 new bed sheets and new mattress provided.
Hostel mess established with 100 new chairs
Other facilities like mosquito repellent , etc.

11. Improvements in training in recent months:-
1.Computerized notes on Signalling & Telecom subjects both in English & Hindi have been published on 13th June 2006.
2.A pictorial note made in two volumes on Siemens Panel Interlocking has also been published on the same day.
3.Animated C.Ds’ on Selection Circuit, Electronic Exchange and Modern Communication is being developed.
4.VCDs’ on Point testing & Adjustment & OFC has been developed by STTI/BY.

13. Status of e-learning Total estimated cost

14. Member staff has decided to enhance the expenditure on training from present 0.7% to 1.5 %. Such enhancement is very essential in STTI
Due to induction of new technology lot of inputs are required to update the training in terms of manpower, teaching aids and availability of live models.

16. Models
It is proposed to augment model room by taking one equipment from the spares being supplied against works contract.
Each unit In-charge has been requested individually to give specific models, which are being supplied to their construction units from stores/works.

17. Manpower
Teaching in STTI requires special skills and staff is selected for this job through specific selection procedure, which is quiet time consuming. To fill up the existing 2 vacancies, one TCI and one _______ were selected on ________ &_________ dates, but, are yet to be relieved by Bombay Division.
