Chester Law Courts Northgate

The Northgate is a classical arch designed by Thomas Harrison and built in 1808-10. It was commissioned by Earl Grosvenor when he was Mayor in 1807-08.

The Law Courts were built in the regency period. The buildings are mock Greek as the front for the Law Courts are in built in the style of an amphitheatre.

Chester Law Courts The main features of the courts which make it typically Regent is the ornate style of the building. This shown by the Ionian columns at the front of the building and also the ornate façade at the top. However the building still contains the Georgian features, such as the symmetry in the layout of the building.
