ALRDC Seminar New and Novel Artificial Lift Technologies ConocoPhillips, Houston, Texas May 14, 2014 Type R Hydraulic Piston Pump Alex Hageman Applications Engineer Accelerated Production Services Inc.

May 14, 2014 2014 ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 2 General Background Hydraulic Piston Pump High pressure fluid is used to drive a piston up and down. Fluid is controlled by an Engine Valve Assembly (EVA) that redirects the power fluid to drive the engine piston. Pump piston is used to pull in formation fluid and push up to surface.

Current Piston Pump Design Hydraulic Piston Pumps stroke 70 – 80 SPM (Strokes Per Minute). –Lower limit of 20 SPM without stalling. –At 20 SPM the production range of a piston pump is 50- 100 BLPD. Stroke length is only 12”. Pump Piston rings susceptible to wear from abrasives in formation fluid. Many moving parts. Time and costly repairs require experience. Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, 2011 2011 Gas Well Deliquification Workshop Denver, Colorado 3

May 14, 2014 2014 ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 4 New Piston Pump Design Can stroke as low as 5-10 SPM. –Reduces wear and fatigue. –Can operate at lower production rates. Minimum 10 BLPD 24” stroke length. Pump Piston can be customized for well. –2 Parts change the P/E ratio and production capabilities. Less parts to repair means more economical.

Pump Middle Section Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, 2011 2011 Gas Well Deliquification Workshop Denver, Colorado 5

Pump End Section Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, 2011 2011 Gas Well Deliquification Workshop Denver, Colorado 6

New Piston Pump Design Key Points Improved engine valve design. Pump end similar to rod pump. Less parts to repair and replace. Easier to repair with faster turn around. Wide production range. –10 - 250 BLPD depending on well performance. Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, 2011 2011 Gas Well Deliquification Workshop Denver, Colorado 7

May 14, 2014 2014 ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 8 What Support is Needed from Industry? Current design is being manufactured. Will be ready for field trials by the end of June 2014. Looking for collaborations on field trials. –Can provide all necessary surface equipment. –Currently designed for 2-3/8” tubing.
