3 Context/Background Recommendation 7.2 ‘Develop training protocols and training courses on men’s health that are tailored to the needs of those working in the health and allied health professions, and that offer a range of innovative methodologies.’

4 Delivery Objectives & Milestones 1.Develop a short training course in men’s health that can be adapted to accommodate the needs of different service providers. 2.Pilot and evaluate the course 3.Develop a Men’s Health Training Resource Pack that can be used as a key resource in the delivery of men’s health training 4.Develop an e-learning resource with interactive capabilities that can be used to complement and support the delivery of men’s health training √√√X√√√X

5 Delivery Objectives 5.Develop a men’s health website to support the training 6.Ensure that men’s health training becomes accredited with the appropriate professional bodies. 7.Develop a Train the Trainer’s programme in men’s health that is designed to train facilitators of a one-day men’s health training programme that can be delivered nationally to front line service providers XX√XX√

6 National Men’s Health Training Programme Unit 1.1: What is Men’s Health? Unit 1.2 Gender and Men’s Health Unit 1.3 Social Determinants of Men’s Health Unit 1.4 Guiding Health Consultations Unit 1.5 Rules of Engagement Unit 1.6 Establishing and Sustaining Men’s Group

7 Aim: To increase participants understanding of best practice in engaging men with health and social services Learning Outcomes On completion of the training, participants will Understand the broad determinants of men’s health, including how gender influences men’s approach to looking after their own health. Understand how best practice guidelines in working with men should be used to engage men more effectively with health Be sensitive to the barriers & prompts experienced by men when accessing health and other services Be able to utilise Brief Interventions and Motivational Interviewing Techniques that have been tailored to have a specific focus on men

8 The Research To evaluate the effectiveness of the process by which ‘Trainers’ are trained and supported to deliver the ‘ENGAGE’ men’s health training programme. (Cascade Model) To measure the impact of the ‘ENGAGE’ men’s health training programme in terms of (i) the capacity of Trainers to deliver the programme; (ii) the ‘reach’ of the programme delivered by the Trainers; and (iii) the knock-on effects of the programme on building capacity among service providers and on the wider delivery of services. To support the development of a ‘Quality’ (‘Q’) Mark in men’s health training.

9 National Men’s Health Training Programme Each trainer was asked to deliver further training x 3 days to individuals/groups in their own area Gain written consent from participants, fill out pre questionnaire, post questionnaire at the training day And 5 month follow up evaluation to further gage progress of the training programme

10 Research Milestones 57 Engage Trainers Trained 21 Engage training programmes delivered to 225 participants on island of Ireland 120 participants at the 5 month evaluation stage Return of the 5 month evaluation is at 50% Target of data collection 280-350 pre and post data sets which would yield approximately 150 5-month post data sets
