This is the part of the moss that carries out sexual reproduction. It produces male and female gametes. The union of these gametes creates a sporophyte. This is the part of the moss that carries out asexual reproduction through spores. It always grows on top of the gametophyte. It produces spores which are released, and in the right conditions develop into gametophytes.
